Payday Quick Loans

There are some important things that you should know before you take up a payday quick loan. You might be tempted to jump at the opportunity that is provided to you if you are in a financial crisis and need the money badly.

The approval process for all loan companies that offer payday quick loans online is pretty simple; and once you provide them, the required details-for instance your job proof, previous salary stub, and checking account details-your approval will not take much time.

This makes it necessary for you to know what the fees and terms of repayment are. You should also do a thorough research of all the companies offering payday quick loans if you wish to apply for one online only. You can in no time get to know which will be the most economical offer for you.

The upper limit of these payday quick loans is usually $1500, and the money is electronically deposited in your checking account instead of your having to wait for money orders to arrive in the mail. The fee for, say $100, is about 15-30 %. Although of late, owing to the competition in the market among the companies offering these loans, the rates have come down to 12% in some cases.

It is advisable to ask for the loan with the shortest term, for as if you keep it for a longer time, the fee will also increase automatically. That is why it is advisable to seek these loans only when you are in dire need of cash and borrow the minimum possible requirement and not borrow any extra money for just-in-case times. Obviously, you wouldnt like paying interest for money that was lying idly in your account. Payday quick loans are meant for a purpose and should be handled likewise.

Payday quick loans solve the financial problems of a vast majority of people today and therefore they should not be abused lest, you founder in the waters of debts for ages. The benefits of these loans that most attract people are that there are no questions asked about why you want to borrow the money and there is no credit check involved. So for people with poor credit scores, these loans are a boon.

Why The Southbeach Diet Food Is So Good For Your Weight Loss And Health Goals

When Miami cardiologist Arthur Agaston realized that his patients following low fat high carb diets were gaining weight, he decided to do some research. And so The South Beach Diet was born. Contrary to what many people believe, The South Beach Diet is not a low fat, low carb diet. Instead, it introduces followers to good carbs and good fats. By eating foods in the correct balance, the result is good health and amazing weight loss (for those who need to lose weight.) The beauty of The South Beach Diet is that it is more of a healthy eating plan than a diet. Even people who do not wish to lose weight can follow the plan for better health.

When hearing the word "diet" we immediately prepare ourselves for deprivation. However, looking at the South Beach Diet foods, one cannot help but be amazed at what you are allowed to eat. The key to The South Beach Diet is using good fats, oils and carbs. These are the oils such as olive oil, canola oil and omega-3 fish oils found in fish like salmon. Combine these with the good carbs found in most vegetables, whole-grain foods and fruit and you have a winner.

The South Beach Diet consists of three phases.

Phase One

Phase One only lasts two weeks and although there are quite a number of restrictions, you will never feel deprived. The main aim is to get you started on your weight loss program and a completely new way of eating.

During Phase 1, you are allowed to eat meat, vegetables, dairy, eggs and cheese. You are encouraged to eat smaller portions more often. Even snacks and certain dessert are allowed! For those who love their starches such as bread and pasta and sugars Phase 1 might be quite a challenge, but the time passes quickly and it is well worth it. Alcohol and fruit are also off limits during this phase.

By the time you finish with Phase 1 craving for sugar etc. is something of the past.

Phase Two

There is no time limit to phase 2. You stay in this phase until you reach your goal weight. It does not matter how much weight you want to lose or how long it takes you to lose it. Eating healthy, delicious South Beach Diet foods will get you there.

You can now slowly start adding some of the foods that were not allowed in the previous phase. Pasta, potatoes and other starches can be back on the menu. Fruit is allowed again, and if you really miss your wine and chocolate you can add them too! Because by now you know which carbs and fats are the good ones, you will be able to make smart choices.

Phase Three

Once you have reached you goal, it is time to move on to Phase 3. By now The South Beach Diet has become a way of life. You feel healthy and full of energy. You will eat what you want, but you will be eating the right foods and maintain your ideal weight.

The South Beach Diet is suitable for everybody, even vegetarians. Should you be one of the lucky ones who do not have to lose weight you can still benefit. Eating the South Beach Diet foods can help to make a healthier, happier you!

Protect Yourself with a Home Inspection

Home inspection plays a very important role in the real estate process. When you are buying or selling a home, you rely on a home inspector to provide an accurate and reliable inspection of a property. A home inspector will tell you about the condition of the home and help you avoid buying a home that needs major repairs. It is the perfect way to get an in-depth and impartial opinion of your next home before you buy it.

What to Expect

Typically, you will hire a home inspector either immediately before an offer is made on a home or as a contingency to a sale. Additionally, home inspections are ideal if you want to evaluate your home's condition or diagnose potential problems before they become serious issues.

Home inspectors perform the following duties:

-Evaluate the physical condition of a property, including the structure, construction and mechanical systems.

-Identify the items that should be repaired or replaced.

-Estimate the remaining useful life of the major systems (such as electrical, plumbing, heating, air conditioning), equipment, structure, and finishes.

Although inspections are primarily visual, inspectors may use tape measures, survey instruments, metering devices, and other equipment, such as concrete strength measurers, to aid in their inspection. They keep a log of their work, take photographs, and file a formal report.

The inspection usually takes two or three hours (depending on the age and size of the home). You should be present so you can ask questions and learn about areas that need additional work. All of the findings will be presented in a formal report that details the condition of the home.

A Close Look

The main purpose of the home inspector is to provide an objective viewpoint on the condition of a specific home at the time of inspection. The inspector does not evaluate the cost or value of the property, but provides a close examination of the following:

Structural Components: Foundations, floors and walls.

Exterior Components: Siding paint, windows, decks, garage doors, etc.

Roofing: Coverings, flashings, chimneys, etc.

Plumbing: Piping, fixtures, faucets, water heating and fuel storage systems, etc.

Electrical: Wiring, main service panels, conductors, switches, receptacles, etc.

Heating: Equipment, safety controls, distribution systems, chimneys, etc.

Air Conditioning and Heat Pumps: Cooling and air-handling equipment, controls and ducting, etc.

Interior: Partitions, ceilings, floors, railings, doors and windows, etc.

Insulation and Ventilation: Attics, walls, floors, foundations, kitchen and bathrooms, etc.

They will additionally perform the following services (sometimes for an extra fee): mold sampling, radon testing, asbestos evaluation, pests/wood destroying organisms, carbon monoxide testing, lead testing, and more. These services are not always available.

Make sure to protect your investment. Get a home inspection before you buy your next home!

What Are The Differences Between An Ssw, Msw, Csw, And Lcsw?

Types of Social Work Degrees:

Social workers can earn three types of degrees, as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics:

Bachelors Degree in Social Work (BSW): A bachelors degree in social work (BSW) degree is the most common minimum requirement to qualify for a job as a social worker; however, majors in psychology, sociology, and related fields may qualify for some entry-level jobs, especially in small community agencies. Although a bachelors degree is sufficient for entry into the field, an advanced degree has become the standard for many positions.

BSW programs prepare graduates for direct service positions, such as caseworker, and include courses in social work values and ethics, dealing with a culturally diverse clientele, at-risk populations, promotion of social and economic justice, human behavior and the social environment, social welfare policy and services, social work practice, social research methods, and field education. Accredited BSW programs require a minimum of 400 hours of supervised field experience.

Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW): A masters degree in social work (MSW) is typically required for positions in health settings and is required for clinical work as well. Some jobs in public and private agencies also may require an advanced degree, such as a masters degree in social services policy or administration. Supervisory, administrative, and staff training positions usually require an advanced degree.

Masters degree programs prepare graduates for work in their chosen field of concentration and continue to develop the skills required to perform clinical assessments, manage large caseloads, take on supervisory roles, and explore new ways of drawing upon social services to meet the needs of clients. Masters programs last 2 years and include a minimum of 900 hours of supervised field instruction, or internship. A part-time program may take 4 years. Entry into a masters program does not require a bachelors degree in social work, but courses in psychology, biology, sociology, economics, political science, and social work are recommended. In addition, a second language can be very helpful. Most masters programs offer advanced standing for those with a bachelors degree from an accredited social work program.

Doctorate in Social Work (DSW or Ph.D.): College and university teaching positions and most research appointments normally require a doctorate in social work. DSWs and Ph.D.s are qualified for research, policy analysis, or teaching at the university level.

Goods in Transit Insurance - What You Must Know About

Vans are integral to the daily business of thousands of small businesses in the Uk. Even if you have only a single van, you'll have to have a minimum amount of third party van insurance. Those who run fleets of vans are not excepted, either. Make sure that your vehicles are adequately insured.

Having just the minimum can be dangerous, however. Comprehensive UK van insurance gives you more and better cover. It's also better suited to the needs of many businesses in the UK. Comprehensive coverage protects against damage that one of your own drivers may do accidentally, windscreen breakage, and other things that third party cover will not pay for. Comprehensive cover can even be used as protection for your stock and equipment, should it be stolen or damaged. This is very useful for businesses which use their vans to deliver goods or provide services.

There are a number of different levels of UK van insurance, each expandable with additional coverage. Get a large number of quotes on the kind of UK van insurance you're hoping to buy. Compare these quotes carefully to find the very best insurer for your business's needs. You can choose from a wide variety of insurers at Van Insurance Direct, and receive an instant quote at no obligation to buy. This is the easiest it's ever been to get good UK van insurance.

Statistics state that there are at least one million RTAs, or road traffic accidents, every year. A third of accidents that turn out to be either serious or fatal involve someone who was working. This is yet another reason to make sure you have the right UK van insurance coverage. At least forty-five thousand additional vans and other commercial vehicles are stolen yearly in the UK. Losing your van to accident or theft could be disastrous for your business. Comprehensive UK van insurance can help you calm your worries.

To get started right away, just browse through the site. Van Insurance Direct can provide you with links to many quality UK van insurance providers. These include Churchill, Budget, Norwich Union, and Swinton. All quotes are provided at no obligation to you, but allow you to buy directly through the Van Insurance Direct site. There's no better way to make sure that your van is insured.

America's Achilles Heel: Its Children. The Unthinkable Terrorist Act

So Many Children
So Much Blood
So Many tears
What will we do?

The soldier stood there erect, proud, and with a heavy heart. He looked at his wife and two children and struggled with saying good-bye. He was going to leave to fight terrorism in a country so far away. Here and now was his first battle. Looking into the eyes of his wife and children he struggled to be strong; to be the image that they would be proud of. It may be the last image he leaves them with. As he looked around the crowd of families he spotted a police officer saying good-bye to another soldier. He walked toward the officer and the officer saw him approaching. Their eyes met as the soldier extended his hand. As they shook hands the soldier said, I am leaving and would like to ask you to do me a favor. Of course, the officer responded. The soldier still gripping the officers hand said, Dont let them get my children.

At the Texas Police Chiefs Conference in Austin, TX in January of this year Lt. Colonel Grossman (retired) of the Killology Research Group and author of On Killing and Stop Teaching Our Kids to Kill spoke regarding killing and terrorism. The above illustration with the soldier should embarrass the men and women of the policing profession. As Lt. Colonel Grossman points out, the police are outgunned and unprepared. Soldiers, and all citizens, deserve better than what we currently offer for the protection of our children. They are our most precious resource.

Close your eyes and arbitrarily pick a day in the middle of the week several weeks from now. Imagine six elementary schools throughout the United States. It is a nice sunny average day. Children are in their classrooms being taught by dedicated, under paid teachers. Its noon and the lunch bell rings. The usual organized chaos ensues as students pour from their classrooms into the cafeteria. During this moment of organized chaos, a well-dressed man, carrying a briefcase, enters the school and walks unchallenged to the cafeteria. As is the custom with many schools, parents, teachers, brothers, and sisters walk in and out of these schools frequently unchallenged. The difference is that they are not carrying explosives--enough explosives to kill everyone in the cafeteria, seriously injure those near the immediate blast area, and damage the facility beyond description. Imagine the blast, the carnage that follows--broken, twisted, blown apart little bodies and the bedlam that ensues. If you have a child, imagine that your child goes to that school. Now imagine that this incident occurs at these six different schools across the country all at the same time. The schools range from a small west Texas elementary to a private prep school in Washington D.C. The terrorists are telling us they can touch our children anywhere in the country. In the aftermath, the inevitable questions will be asked. How could this happen to this country again? Where were the police? These are questions the policing profession is unprepared to answer.

Why not target the schools? This has been the M.O. (modus operandi) for terrorists for a long time. When we look at the M.O. its easy to see what they do. Just watch the news. Attacks in other countries have been accomplished through car bombs, blowing up buses full of passengers, nightclubs full of patrons, churches, malls, and schools. They had previously tried to blow up the World Trade Center. It would be nave to think they wouldnt try again. We just didnt think they would use airplanes as missiles. When the Washington D.C. snipers shot thirteen year old Iran Brown as he was walking into school, an emotional outcry resonated through the country. It became evident that if you really want to touch a nerve in this country go after the kids.

In the event of an attack on our schools, what will the police do? With the death of a few thousand children will come a demand for action from the American people; what will it be? Schools across the country will close for an undetermined amount of time. The economic effect could be staggering. Imagine all these teachers out of work. Many parents may have to quit their jobs to stay home with their children. After September 11th the Federal Government declared war on terrorism while we were mourning our loss and trying to find a sense of direction. The government has taken the lead with legislation and funding. Through the efforts of the Transportation Security Administration it is unlikely that a terrorist will be able to commandeer another commercial aircraft. A small private aircraft full of explosives crashing into a school is a possibility. Through the strength and determination of the FBI and the CIA, the intelligence gathering capability of the United States government has become formidable and probably the reason we have not sustained another attack, yet. You can rest assured another attack is coming; it is not if, but when. On CNN September 6, 2001 in an article on the North Belfast School Crisis stated There was widespread revulsion on Wednesday when militants threw a homemade grenade into the road as students aged four to eleven walked towards the school. Frontline interview with Pakistani terrorist Mohammad Abdullah: You killed 14 children. Four others who died were poor elderly people. How did you justify this massacre to yourself? I was not happy about it, and even told Abu Abdullah to send someone else. But he said it was necessary to establish our dehshat (terror). Response of the Government of Israel to the Report of the Special Rapporteur of the Commission on Human Rights, Professor John Dugard, dated March 2002, It makes no mention of the tragic impact of terrorism on Israeli children who are savagely murdered by suicide terrorists in schools, and buses, in discotheques, pubs and pizza restaurants, in market places and in open streets, in shopping centers and in their very homes, on a daily basis. The very idea of terrorists killing our children is so repulsive we deny that our children could become the victim of such an unspeakable act. If this can occur in other countries, what assurances do we have that it wont occur here?

The mission of the Department of Homeland Security is to develop and coordinate the implementation of a comprehensive national strategy to secure the United States from terrorist threats or attacks. The Office will coordinate the executive branch's efforts to detect, prepare for, prevent, protect against, respond to, and recover from terrorist attacks within the United States. When it comes to fulfilling the mission of Homeland Security and keeping our communities safe, the responsibility falls upon the federal government to acquire the appropriate intelligence but it will be the police officer on the street who will run into the fray when everyone else with any sense will be running away. Outgunned and unprepared, it becomes obvious that the police are the weak link.

An aggressive, proactive posture will be the key to our success. To strengthen our position we must have better coordination with our federal counterparts that receive relevant intelligence. This intelligence must be disseminated to the appropriate authorities. There needs to be additional mandatory training for all police officers regarding domestic as well as international terrorists. A national database for sharing information needs to be developed. The current status of police firepower needs to be re-evaluated. Police handguns against automatic shoulder weapons will result in the death of not only those who took the oath to protect and serve but also to civilians. The use of rifles by police has been the subject of much debate for several years. Having the equivalent of a military presence by the police carrying M-16 rifles in our schools would have a chilling effect on the learning environment but eventually could become a necessity. School administrators need to work with the police to find a common ground that facilitates a secure and thriving academic environment.

Technology in conjunction with accurate intelligence is our most useful tool. Funds need to be made available to enhance the security of our childrens schools through technology and additional security. A needs assessment should be performed. Just throwing money at the problem will not solve the problem. People will solve the problem. There should be a balance between the police mission, its ability to have access to relevant intelligence, and the technology that is available.

School administrators are urged to meet with their law enforcement agencies and work out a strategy to meet the current threat and a contingency plan (critical incident management) should the threat become a reality. A strategic plan for each school should take into consideration the organizations resources and having established clear goals, objectives, tasks, time frame, accountability, and follow-up schedule, a strategic plan can come to fruition responsive to the dynamic academic and policing environment utilizing the P.O.L.I.C.E. Leadership Methodology (Planning, Organizing, Liability, Information, Control, Ethics). School and police officials must consider hardening the target (school) with procedures similar to airport security where appropriate. Officials can use volunteer parents, school officials, and security guards to augment the police. These civilian assets must be trained to recognize potential threats.

It is natural during times such as these to profile people. Is it wrong? Of course, but it is going to happen nonetheless, especially when we are utilizing civilians to recognize potential threats. A Middle Eastern parent approaching a school to get their child is going to be profiled. On the same hand, does it mean someone like Timothy McVae could just walk right in? No one should be able to walk right into a school unchallenged. There are many schools that have police officers assigned to them. They are usually assigned so that there is a police presence to deter internal violence and gang activity. Some police officers are assigned to schools to provide public relations, teach D.A.R.E. and other classes. An external attack has not been a high priority for most school administrators or police agencies. The S.W.A.T. team in Shreveport, LA has recently started training for a suicide bomber scenario. There are other agencies like Shreveport who are working to be prepared, but S.W.A.T. teams are usually reactionary police assets who respond when something has already happened. It is time for a paradigm shift. They need to be proactive and working with the schools. The majority of schools dont have a S.W.A.T. team readily available to them for threat level assessment and training. Again, they must rely on the police officer on the street that is always the first responder and the first to run in when everyone else is running out.

Summary

Americas most precious resource is not its oil, gold, technology, or American might. Its most precious resource is its children. What better way to hurt the American people than by killing its children? We realize this is a possibility as we examine the acts of terrorists. Killing children and blowing up schools have been the past practice of terrorists and it would be nave to believe this could not happen in America. The America people, school officials, and the police must be prepared but must not overreact. Through a coordinated effort between the schools, intelligence community, the utilization of technology, and the police, a strategy must be developed designed to be proactive to thwart potential attacks as well as reactionary in the event an attack should be successful.

If an attack on our children is successful the response from the American government must be of such magnitude that terrorists would consider the consequences prior to another attempt. Imagine Charlie Gibson on Good Morning America saying, America is reeling from an attack on six elementary schools. Many young school children are dead, injured, and missing. There has even been an unconfirmed report that tears could be seen streaming down the face of the Statue of Liberty. What will we do?

I Love Lucy (Season 2) DVD Review

Widely considered one of the greatest, if not the greatest, show in television history, I Love Lucy signaled the ascendance of the prime time TV era. The brainchild of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, I Love Lucy revolutionized the television industry with its extensive use of a live audience and the employment of multiple camera angles. The result of true comic genius, the show's ability to entertain is just as relevant today as it was fifty years ago

Real-life couple Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz play the prominent roles of Lucy and Ricky Ricardo, a married couple living in a New York apartment complex. Ricky is a Cuban-born band leader who wows night clubs with his act, while Lucy is a homemaker. Lucy and Ricky's best friends are landlords Fred and Ethel Mertz who often become intertwined in Lucy's get-rich-quick schemes, screwball ideas, and comic shenanigans. Former masters of the stage, the cast comes across as a likeable bunch, with Lucille Ball stealing the show with her goofy antics and brilliant facial contortions. If ever there were a television classic, then I Love Lucy is it

The I Love Lucy (Season 2) DVD offers a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere "The Anniversary Present" in which Ricky is spending time with a beautiful neighbor who is helping him find the perfect anniversary present for Lucy. But Lucy and Ethel are convinced that Ricky is having an affair, and they set out to spy on the two "home wreckers" Other notable episodes from Season 2 include "Redecorating" in which Lucy unwittingly sells all the furniture after Fred and Ricky conspire to tell her she's won a home decorating contest, and "The Camping Trip" in which Ricky tries to keep Lucy (and Ethel) from horning in on his and Fred's camping retreat by taking her on a "trial run" (which he plans to make a miserable experience). Why Your Company Should Be Doing Business In California

Whether you are a U.S. or foreign company, a CEO, board member, business owner, entrepreneur or marketing executive, if you are not marketing your products or services in California you should be.

Why do companies want to do business in California?

California is a huge and potentially very lucrative market, with an enormous and diverse consumer and business-to-business customer base, which spends billions and billions of dollars each year for products and services of every kind.

California Quick Stats:

Population

As of 2006, California has an estimated population of over 37 million. More than 12% of U.S. citizens live in the state. California has 8 of the top 50 U.S. cities in terms of population. Californias population is larger than all but 33 countries

The indigenous languages of California number over 100 and show great diversity, making California one of the most linguistically diverse areas of the world.

Geography
Total area: 163,000 square miles. Larger than Germany. Third largest U.S. state, after Alaska and Texas.
length: 770 miles (straight line)
width: 250 miles at widest part
coastline: 840 miles

Climate

California has many and extremely varied climates. The Los Angeles area climate is Mediterranean, ranging from beaches to deserts to valleys to mountains. Los Angeles produces approx 330 sunny days a year, with little or no humidity. Summers here are very hot but dry, winters are mild with daytime temps fairly comfortable.

Economy

Californias economy is the 7th largest in the world. California is responsible for 13% of the entire United States gross domestic product (GDP). Californias GDP is about 1.55 trillion dollars annually, making it not only greater than that of every other U.S. state but also greater than most countries in the world.

Based on the above, who WOULDN'T like to do business in California?

Are you a U.S. or foreign company considering establishing a physical presence in California, using local agents, or marketing into California from outside the state via advertising, direct mail, face-to-face sales calls, telesales, trade shows, online marketing and/or other marketing methods? If you are, as with any new major market a company contemplates entering, make sure you first arm yourself with real "inside" local intel regarding local customs, language, politics and business practices; it can make the difference between success and failure. And, for California, your business model and marketing plan will definitely require adjustments ... BEFORE you launch.

The Web and Education--One Mom's Perspective

Parents should get more involved in the education of a child. How many times have you heard this statement? My question is, Where does a parent begin? I understand that as a parent I must be engaged. I truly do get that I have to ensure the homework is done and that I am communicating regularly with my childs teachers. But beyond that, what else can a parent do?

I imagine there are hundreds of things a parent might do, but I would like to share my personal experience with you. Lets begin with a little insight into my background. Several years ago while developing and teaching Air Force training courses for U.S. Space Command, I became fascinated with the use of computers in learning. So when my child was beginning her educational experience, of course, I loaded up on the best educational software in the land. But, I kept hearing this persistent buzz about Internet resources.

Did you know that if you Google educational resources, you get 163,000,000 search results? If you narrow it down to lets say math, you end up with a whopping 269,000,000 results. Some of them are really good, and some of them really stink, and some have so much advertising you cant tell if they are really good, really awful or fair-to-midland. But if you hang in there and really look, there are some real gems out there and most of them are absolutely free.

One exercise I have done with my child over the years involves researching the admissions criteria for different schools. We found sites like CollegeTours.com, a site providing loads of information and virtual tours of different college campuses, to be references for this exercise. We have even gone as far as to look at scholarship requirements using databases such as CollegeNET.com and CollegeIsPossible.org. We also compared the costs of different institutions. We began doing this in her sixth grade year. Because we started early, my child has understood the requirements for college acceptance and financing for sometime now. When I started the process, my hope was that we would not be running around in her junior and senior years trying to get things in order. It is awfully difficult to bring up that grade point average in a couple of semesters, especially if the young person is stressed by time constraints. Getting my child prepared early was my way of ensuring we were prepared when we got down to deadlines. A worksheet for this exercise can be downloaded from my website YouthPlay.org.

My daughter is now in the eleventh grade. She is a member of the National Honor Society, president of her junior class, a starting member of her high school basketball team, an apprentice for a local neurosurgeon and a social butterfly. And, we are already inundated with college recruitment materials from the best colleges in the nation. In other words, were getting thereour strategy has worked thus far.

There were several not-so-accidental elements in my Internet strategy. For instance, practice is an essential part of a successful study routineespecially when dealing with facts and rules. The Internet and various software can be very useful in providing repetition in a not-so-routine manner. Games such as Basket Math at ScienceAcademy.com where your child actually makes a hoop each time he or she gets the correct answer can make rote learning of multiplication tables a tad more interesting than just repeating the multiplication tables over and over.

I remember clearly when I began to dislike matha subject I had loved until, I believe, I ran into the wrong teacher. I remember my worst days in school. I remember my best days. I remember the teachers who were creative and inspiring and know that the best skills I possess today are in the areas they taught. Because of my own experience, I looked very hard for good learning websites to share with my daughter. I didnt want her to be turned off by sites that were really advertising monsters, just enticing you to a point of enjoyment and then launching an advertising scheme where you must make a purchase before you can go any further. Certainly I understand that many websites survive through their ability to sell products, however I believe this can be accomplished without bait and purchase gimmicks.

Goodness, have you ever tried to unlearn something you learned how to do wrong? You really have to make sure that the resources that your child uses are good resources. Every textbook is not a good textbook; every teacher is not a good teacher; and, every website is not a good website. Assuming these tools are good simply because they exist or because the school system uses them can cause your child a world of harm. A parent really has to do more than have these tools available. If you tryout a piece of software or an Internet resource and you cannot follow the instructions, then there is a very good chance your child may not be able to effectively use the resource either. And the same rule applies with other resources as well. Some sites such as Math.com and MathForum.com gave really simple step-by-step instructions to concepts my child was learning in school, yet I had long forgotten. I was able to refresh my memory and to get her on track using these resources.

The vividness of the learning experience can also be very important. If I take my child to the zoo to learn about animals, he or she will learn more than if I just explain the animals. One of my favorite sites for young kids is Switchzoo.com. My younger nieces and nephews are fascinated with the animals they are familiar with, but just spillover with excitement as they manipulate the animals to make new ones. I think that my daughter and I are really supposed to be a little old for the activity, but in all truthfulness we have a great time with it too.

There are so many places out there that I neither have the time nor the money to take my child. The Internet has been especially useful in getting my child to those places. At our fingertips we have the Virtual Smithsonian Institute and the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. At GreatPlaces.org we have in living color enjoyed films and photos of Madagascar, Tibet, the Amazon and several other far away places. Websites such as the Academy of Achievement featuring diverse faces from different walks of life and Get Smarter provide children with the opportunity to interact with young people of different cultures. While certainly not substitutes for eye-to-eye interaction, these types of websites provide additional opportunities for young people to interact with peers from other backgrounds. Through the gateway of MuseumStuff.com, we have viewed museums all over the world including my personal favorite the web only exhibits of our National Museum of Air and Space in Washington DC. And lets not forget the brick and mortar library. Before computers the library is how my parents took me to far away places. It still works and every library that we have visited recently has wonderful computer resources as well. So, if you dont have a computer at home, that is certainly no excuse for not spending some time with your child using this wonderful technology. And I still buy books for presentswonderful, exciting, colorful books.

There are several good resources on the web that make the search for good, educationally sound websites easier for parents. The Education Place and Education World-- The Educator's Best Friend are sites developed by educators. These sites and the many others like them, including my own website www.YouthPlay.org featuring the websites I have used in educating my child, keep us updated on the newest and the best resources in education and help us in making decisions regarding our childrens education. My personal favorite is my very own YouthPlay blog (http://youthplay-org.blogspot.com) where I share my favorite educational websites daily.

I truly believe that the resources of the Internet have helped my daughter to tap into all of her talents and have the potential to help other children to do the same.

A.R. Linder is the editor of the YouthPlay blog found at http://youthplay-org.blogspot.com-- a daily review of her favorite educational resources. A cornerstone of the website is a wonderful area called YouthPlay.org --a collection of many of the websites she has used in educating herself and her child. Ms. Linder is a graduate of the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. She has more than 15 years of experience in training and workforce development. Florella Blog51599

Forget About Rare Gems, Let's Talk About Metal Types for Engagement and Wedding Ring Bands

One key decision to make when you build your own engagement rings is the metal. Yellow, white gold and platinum are most common. Titanium bands and silver are less so. Rose gold engagement rings or copper are pretty rare.

Titanium bands are the new black in the wedding industry. Titanium has a long history in industries such the military, aerospace, medicine, etc. but has only been widely seen on the fingers of brides and grooms for the last 20 years. While titanium is not rare, it is one of the strongest materials around, compared to other materials of similar weight. For example, titanium weighs 75% less than gold, but is 50% stronger than steel of the same weight. Titanium is a tough cookie and will outlast other metals such as gold and platinum.

Wait, there are even more advantages to titanium bands. Since titanium is one of the 9th most abundant metals around, it is relatively inexpensive, thus, it will usually cost less than platinum and sometimes less than gold. The cost in titanium jewelry is not for the raw metal but the artistry and labor involved in designing the ring. Titanium is also hypoallergenic and will not make your skin turn green or other unsightly shades. It is a low maintenance metal and doesn't tarnish

Titanium can be combined with other metals such as silver, gold, and platinum and embellished with any kind of gemstone. It can also be colored to have sheens of any shade of the rainbow.

Titanium bands also have a few downsides. Titanium is often marketed as being scratch-resistant, but that's not exactly true. Titanium bands will show small scrapes and scratches just like gold and platinum wedding bands. However, any local jeweler should be able to polish a titanium ring look new again. you need to take care when picking out your ring size because re-sizing titanium rings is nearly impossible. You may be able to slightly increase a titanium ring size, but you really can't make it any smaller. Thus, don't plan on losing any weight after you purchase your ring.

There is an urban legend surrounding titanium, since it is such a strong metal, that if you get a titanium ring stuck on your finger, you will not be able to get it off and your finger will have to be amputated. What a horrible thought! This is not true--- as with other metals such as gold or platinum, if need be, titanium can be cut off one's fingers with a professional-grade ring cutting tool.

I don't think I've ever seen any women wearing rose gold engagement rings. Nonetheless, they exist and while not typically sold in most mainstream jewelry stores, can be found in antique stores. Victorian antique engagement rings (1835-1900) were often set in rose gold. You can also find rose gold engagement rings that are produced today. There are some online jewelry stores that actually specialize in producing them.

Most people have preferred the color of gold to remain close to that of pure yellow gold itself. Gold only naturally occurrs in the yellow shade. All others shades are produced by mixing 24K gold with other metals. Pure gold is too soft to wear as jewelry and so alloys are almost always added to it, regardless of the color desired. The term alloys refers to a combination of two or more metals. Gold alloys are a combination of gold, copper and silver. Nickel, zinc, and palladium are common components of white gold alloys. To create rose gold alloys, the silver content of gold is reduced while the content of copper is increased slightly. The more copper that is added to it, the deeper the rose hue.

One thing to note when shopping for a rose gold, is that the color of rose gold may subtly intensify with age due to a tarnishing of the the copper.

Julie Shields is recently married and is sporting an ascher cut engagement ring. She put together the website http://www.ultimate-engagement-ring-guide.com to help you find the perfect ring.Gaye Blog99053

Get Rid of Toxins and You Will Lose Weight Fast

TOXINS

Have you ever asked yourself this question, why is it today we have more obese people? Up 67% of the population are overweight today. There were a great lot less many years ago.

A few, but in no way were they around as they are today, and believe me it will get worse. It will not get any better unless people educate themselves. Unless they know why this is happening, the problem will continue to grow.

Think of this; in the 1950' and 60's we never had so many obese people as we have today. In fact, I believe people did not get fat, they just did not like to draw attention to themselves.

I guess there were one or two around, however lot too many.

Don't tell me it was because some of us did not have enough to eat, because even then we had those who were financially comfortable but did look after themselves. Their health and well being was as it should be.

We did not see overweight people as we see today. I recall I went to Las Vegas and observed numerous ladies sitting next to slot machines pumping in their quarters These ladies definitely fitted what I refer to as obese.

Weight loss for good, is the goal of anyone unhappy with their current size or shape. The information on this web site is aimed at anyone who wants to lose weight and keep it off.

We don't have to tell you, being obese can have serious consequences to your health. These include an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, gallstones, and some forms of cancer. Losing weight can help reduce each of these risks.

According to research by the Discovery Health Channel, 50 percent of children do not get enough exercise to develop healthy heart and lung systems. Furthermore, 78 percent have at least one heart disease risk and 20 to 30 percent are already obese. Adults are in even worse shape with 64 percent not getting enough exercise to maintain healthy heart and lung systems, 24 percent never exercise, and more than 45 percent are overweight.

Victims of a Toxic Colon

Have you ever considered this simple question: Are you clean inside? We shower, brush our teeth and wash our hair on a daily basis, but we tend to ignore cleansing our insides until some form of disease sends us a wake-up call. Believe it or not, our insides, especially the colon which functions as the "sewer system" of our body, also requires regular cleaning.

Constipation, parasites, IBS, gas, bloating, stomach pain, chronic fatigue, digestive problems can all be signs of a toxic colon. Don't be a victim, suffering silently from these painful and often embarrassing health conditions. Find out the truth about colon cleansing and how it can help you.

Why Is Colon Cleansing So Crucial?

We are all exposed to thousands of toxins and chemicals on a daily basis at work, in the home, through the air we breathe, our food and water supply, and through the use of harmaceutical drugs. In addition, we are eating more sugar and processed foods than ever before in human history and regularly abuse our bodies with various stimulants and sedatives.

"Death Begins in the Colon"

These toxins and "dead" foods lead to poor digestion, constipation, toxic colon build-up, weight gain and low energy.

These common symptoms are more than just an inconvenience they can lead to long-term health problems and serious disease.

"Of all the polite topics of conversation, the state of one's intestines is probably at the bottom of most people's lists.

Let's face it: Irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, gas, diverticulitis and colon cancer are simply not things we like to discuss. And yet, as the old expression goes, death begins in the colon. Don't believe it? Ask any coroner. Autopsies often reveal colons that are plugged up to 80 percent with waste material." Vegetarian Times, March, 1998

"Parasites May Rule the World"

This waste material is home to, in the words of National Geographic, "a sinister world of monstrous creatures that feed on living flesh: parasites". Discover magazine published a feature article in its August 2000 issue: "Every living thing has at least one parasite that lives inside or on it, and many, including humans, have far more. ...Scientistsare only just beginning to discover exactly how powerful these hidden inhabitants can be, but their research is pointing to a remarkable possibility: Parasites may rule the world. The notion that tiny creatures we've largely taken for granted are such a dominant force is immensely disturbing. We are collections of cells that work together, kept harmonized by chemical signals.

If an organism can control those signals an organism like a parasite then it can control us. And therein lies the peculiar and precise horror of parasites."

The combination of environmental toxins, an unhealthy diet and parasites poses a grave danger to humans. "In fact, parasites have killed more humans than all the wars in history", reported National Geographic in its award-winning documentary, The Body Snatchers.

In order to rid ourselves of these toxins it was required someone came up with a body cleanse which would be able to clean out the fat particles, and the toxins from the colon, liver, kidneys and lungs, plus all the other organs. I am happy to say I used John Anderson's natural cleanse, after I used it I felt 100% better and full of energy.

Medical Malpractice

Medical malpractice, which is also known as medical negligence, is caused by a physician who gives improper treatment to a health condition, which in turn causes a fresh or worsening health condition. Even though the primary health condition of the patient when he reported for consultation is not the responsibility of the medical practitioner, subsequent problems caused by improper approach in curing the health problem is the sole responsibility of the medical practitioner.

The malpractice may occur due to failure or delay in diagnosing the illness, a mishap, which happened during anesthesia or surgery, or if the practitioner omits to get the concurrence of the patient by providing incomplete details of when a surgery or an operation is to be performed.

Even though a correct diagnosis was made, subsequent improper treatment of the identified illness also constitutes to medical malpractice.

Implants, medical devices or prescription drug misuse also forms part of medical malpractice.

Medical malpractice is bound by the statute of limitations. Even with a valid claim, if a patient waits for a longer period, then the claim will be lost. After the malpractice takes place, a claim should be filed within 2 years. Since medical malpractice involves tricky exceptions and procedures, hence even if two years are elapsed it can still be possible to file a case.

A patient should not try to evaluate the claim by himself or liaise with the doctor or the hospital/clinic to work out a compromise. A decision is made by the insurance company which carried the medical practitioner's insurance regarding medical malpractice and they have the final and real "say" in the case.

It is the obligation of the attorney concerned to efficiently and quickly determine whether there is an actionable, good case. Medical malpractice cases are very expensive to go through, they are complex and can be a high risk for recovery and frequently involve the personal "attachment" of the client.

A detailed medical history dealing with the hospitals and physicians who gave the treatment should be obtained by the attorney prior to the filing of a medical malpractice case. A written summary highlighting all medical treatment received which should include symptoms, conversations with medical professionals and the type of treatment given is required. The attorney will initiate steps to procure all the relevant records from the hospitals or the doctors as a proof of medical negligence.

Normally a medical expert will be appointed by the attorney to determine the extent of medical malpractice. The expert should have been certified in the relevant medical field by the concerned board since he has to appear as a witness to answer questions and give an expert opinion.

With reasonable certainity, the medical expert should conclude that the cause of the damage to the patient is due to the action or inaction of the physician after investigating the procedures thoroughly.

Gifts And Delights For A Baby Shower

There is no other way to welcome the baby and celebrate the parents by throwing fun baby showers. For those who would like to do the honor of holding one for somebody close, I suggest that you carefully plan it so that you wont miss out on any important things that you basically need to cover. Pre baby parties are to give the parents for moral support and maybe lift their financial burden a little by giving basic necessities for their baby.

The first question to ask is who should host the gathering? In the past only non-related womenfolk hosted a baby shower, groups such as friends, co-workers and church cells. Time changes traditions and it is currently more common and acceptable for mothers, aunts, grandmothers and sisters to host showers too. Someone has to take the first step to host the shower and the person generally becomes the hostess. A baby shower is a wonderful display of showing love and caring for a growing family and specially helps to welcome a new life into the world. A baby shower can be hosted either individually or as a group; in fact it might be more fun and exciting for a group to share in the excitement and responsibilities of planning out and hosting this extra special event. This will help to alleviate some of the stress of planning should the burden of hosting be shouldered alone.

As for the guest list, you would most likely have a rough idea of those you think should be invited to the event, but it is best to make sure the mother to be has a look at the list beforehand to ensure that no one is left out and that you leave out people that she doesnt want there. Although the written invitation is still the most preferable way to kick off a shower as it adds a personal touch, you can invite guests using more modern methods such as via phone calls, sms or e-mail. Baby shower e-card invitations templates are readily available online for free or at a nominal cost. Regardless of the type of invitation used, you must double check to make sure that all pertinent information is included. This may be in regards to themes, a map or written directions to the shower, the address of the hospital the mother to be is at or any other item that guests should know about.

Planning for the date of the shower is crucial too. Never have it in the last trimester of pregnancy, during which the mother is most uncomfortable. Make room so that she can still source the things that both she and the baby needs.

When deciding on the gifts, think of basic necessities. Things the baby would need when it arrives. Towels, diapers or even cloth basket will do just fine. Try to be more creative by arranging the stuffs in the basket so that it looks delightful. You can also use a bathroom bucket and fill in with bath essentials like soap, lotion and shampoo. Arranging the items into a cake made of towels and other goodies is also appealing. A few simple things like rubber, tape and ribbons should do the job. Homemade baby things are a joy to have. Patchwork covers are indeed a delight for mothers and baby. So are knit wears

A baby show need not take too long to carry out. It all depends on the visitors present. If they know each other well, they might want to stay longer.

Although there are many different variations on shower events, but a simple schedule for baby showers is shown here in this article which should be useful as a rough guideline. Any part can be added, removed and re-ordered to your personal tastes. Firstly as the host you should receive the arriving guests and greet them. It would be a good idea to serve some light snacks or finger foods. Once all or almost all guests have arrived, walk around the room and get each guest to introduce themselves briefly and identify how they know the mother-to-be. Play a few simple shower games at the beginning as ice-breakers many wonderful game ideas are available on the internet. You have to bear in mind that some of the guests may not know anyone else there other than the mother-to-be. Once this is over is over allow everyone go and eat the available food.

Once everyone has been served and satiated, the mother-to-be can start to open her gifts. An important note is to be sure to have a designated somebody jots down what each gift is and who it came from. This will make returning thank-you notes a lot easier for the future mother. The guests may leave at different intervals usually a few at a time depending on how well they mingle with the other guests. Make sure the mother-to-be has the opportunity to say goodbye to everyone. As the hostess or hostesses, be sure to thank the guests for attending. If the hostess has any shower favors, they should give this to the guests at this time.

Some of the documents that clients will have to submit to a Blue World Pools dealer are proof of ownership of the house where the swimming pool will be installed and proof of income of the person who is seeking the loan. Once these documents are submitted the processing for the loan amount begins and one can get the required money within no time. This loan falls under the category of home improvement loans, and one can repay this easily as the repayment options are also simple. So if money was the only issue that was holding you back from installing the aboveground swimming pool at your house, then you can go right ahead and get it installed.

Short Term Bridging Loans Own Property Instantly At Low Cost Finance

You have set eyes on a property either commercial or personal and you need to buy it immediately before any property grabber takes note of it. But there is a problem. You would be selling your old property to get required finance for buying the new one. The old property however will take time to sell. There is a solution in short term bridging loans.

Short term bridging loans are provided for the time the borrower is able to sell old property to pay off the loan. As the term applies the loan is taken usually for a short period till old property is sold. Short term bridging loans are secured loans. The very property the borrower will be selling is taken by the lender as collateral to secure the loan. How much one can borrow? Well this depends on the value of the property to be sold and offered as collateral. Lenders are willing to offer 65 percent of the value of the property to be sold.

Since short term bridging loans are taken for a shorter repayment period of few weeks to 6 months. Lenders charge higher interest rate. This however can be countered by comparing different loan packages and comparatively lower interest rate can be availed. The relief for the borrower is that no monthly installments are involved in the loan and only interest is paid during the loan repayment duration. The principal amount is paid back when the borrower is able to sell the old property. No upfront fee is involved in the loan offer which is another advantage for the borrower.

The biggest advantage of short term bridging loans is that it is in the hands of the needy borrower within 24 hours. Fast approval is the key and attractive feature of the loan. But you should keep all documents ready for taking the loan in time.

In order to take maximum advantage from the loan goes for an extensive searching for the short term bridging loans providers. Numbers of the loan providers have displayed their short term bridging loans products on their websites. Make a careful comparison in terms of interest rates and other conditions. See what suits you the best. Settle for the lender having suitable package for you and apply then and there online to him. The lender will not take anything for processing loan application and on giving information about the loan.

Surely short term bridging loans provide the much needed finance at the right time when you are looking for buying new property commercial or personal. Compare different loan package on offer prior to sealing the deal.

Why Do I Need a Notary Bond?

A notary public is an official appointed position by the Secretary of State's office in a given state. As with most public officials, the State requires that the individual obtain a surety or notary bond prior to receiving their appointment. This bond "makes sure" that if the official violates the public trust through negligence of their duties, funds are available to reimburse the State for its loss.

The primary responsibility of a notary public is to validate that the individual parties to a contract are who they claim to be. The State may suffer a loss if the notary fails to properly confirm the identity of the parties.

Here's an example...

Let's say Jim wants to buy a car currently titled to John. Jim and John bring the title to their local notary public to notarize their signatures on the transfer of title. The notary asks both for their drivers license to confirm their identities. Jim promptly presents his, but John claims to have left his ID at home. John is in a hurry to get the deal done, so the notary public simply instructs both Jim and John to sign the title, after which the notary signs or notarizes their signatures.

Unfortunately the person claiming to be "John" is actually John's roommate Steve. The real John is away on vacation and had no intention of selling the car. Do you think this John is a happy camper? Had the notary refused to witness the transaction because Steve didn't present identification, John would still have the title to his car.

As a public official, the notary public in this example violated the public trust by failing in their duty to confirm identity. John has recourse to file a claim against the State in which the transaction occurred for his loss, because the State was negligent through its appointed representative.

A notary bond is a guarantee of payment to the obligee (the State) should a loss occur for a penalty amount of the bond. Notary bonds are usually provided by a surety company (typically an insurance carrier). The bond generally runs concurrently with the term of the notary public's commission.

You're probably familiar with an auto insurance policy. If you have an auto accident, the insurance company pays the claim and writes off the loss. You aren't required to reimburse the company for the damages.

Unlike an auto insurance policy however, a notary bond is simply a guarantee that the funds will be available should a loss occur. The surety (insurance company) makes a payment to the State up to the penalty amount of the bond. However, this loss paid by the surety is not simply written off. They will most likely seek reimbursement from the bonded party - the NOTARY!

A notary bond protects the public. Who protects the notary? Insurance coverage is available to provide this protection - it's called Notary Public Errors and Omissions and may be purchased for a nominal fee from insurance companies.

To sum up, purchasing a notary bond is a requirement to become a notary public. I hope this overview has shed some light on why this is needed to protect the public trust.

How And When To Set NameServers For Domain Names

Nameservers are in many ways like a telephone directory. When you need to know someone's address or phone number, the first thing you do is pick up a telephone directory (or use the internet or by phone, these days). When you find the name of the person in the book, you're presented with their address and phone number (unless they're ex-directory). Nameservers are the telephone books of the internet.

When you need to get to a website, and you have the domain name - ie. Nunkey.com, the first thing you do is enter the name into your browser - Internet Explorer, Mozilla, etc. What people don't realize is that a domain name is not the actual address of the website. The same as someone's name isn't their address. A website's address is called an IP address. The nameserver links the two.

I can see you asking "what the heck is an IP address?". IP address stands for Internet Protocol address. It is a unique address given to each individual website and computer that is linked to the internet. It is in the form of xx.xx.xxx.xxx or similar, where the xs are a number. So it is the internet equivalent of a physical address. Nameservers will direct you to the IP address, and, ultimately, the website, just like a phone book.

There are many nameservers on the internet, just as there are many phone books and directories out there. They are held by web hosting companies. Hosting companies are akin to real estate agents who let or sell their properties - in the cyber world. Host companies use their own servers, and in essence, hold the address information for any domain name hosted with them.

When you enter a domain name into your browser, you are asking the 'phone company' (web host) to look into their 'phone book' (nameservers) and tell you the (IP) address of that site, so you can be redirected there. Upon registration, they usually take a day or two to be set up, and can be changed at anytime.

You may decide to own your own server, in which case you will be given your own nameservers. You will need to add these to any domains you own. By doing this, you effectively are in control - albeit automated - of the redirection of domain name-to-web site queries. With nameservers, a lot is done behind the scenes. So, unfortunately, people never really know how they work. I hope this clears it up for you!

Hidden Costs of Offshoring

The media is full of reports of tech companies going offshore for their software development and support capabilities. While this is a real phenomenon that is happening, and the dollar cost savings can be compelling, there are several downsides that don't seem to be brought up very often. These can have a tremendously detrimental impact on a company's products and brands, and without careful consideration can lead to shortsighted decisions that ultimately take down a company.

Here are a few of the considerations:

1.) You may stifle and inhibit your product efforts

Truly great products are created by innovative engineering teams that work very closely with Product Managers and other groups in a company. As a Product Management professional I've worked with some great teams that have delivered some incredible products. Products like these aren't something you can simply write a spec for, deliver it to engineers overseas, and get something exceptional back. Sure, for simple and VERY straightforward coding work you can farm it out. But if you want to create truly breakthrough products you need a team that has great ideas AND that works closely with your Product Management folks to ensure customer needs are being met. The best situation is where you get a team that looks at the MRD (Market Requirements Document) and figures out a way to deliver far more than what it calls for in a way that Product Management could never have thought up.

2.) Your brand and customer relationships may suffer

The cost of losing a customer and ruining your brand as a result of offshoring can be very high. Consider this example. My wife Sarah (VP of Sales for the 280 Group) recently had a software problem and contacted technical support for a well-known brand name product. She ended up exchanging email five or six times with them. After the second message it became painfully obvious that the person on the other end didn't speak English very well, and that they had little chance of even understanding the problem let alone solving it.

Now if this was an isolated incident it would be one thing, but this company gave me the exact same lack of service when I had a different problem. Sure, they saved a lot by having the support handled by someone in India. But now that they've lost us as customers, the question is, how much are they going to have to spend to attempt to win us back?

Smart companies are realizing this - that's why Dell pulled their India tech support efforts recently. The long-term value of a customer is FAR higher than any short-term savings they can realize by having someone less-expensive answering support questions.

3.) Managing offshore development can take a huge toll.

A friend of mine recently returned from a trip India where he is managing an engineering team and was investigating finding new facilities. He goes there about once a quarter. During this trip he got violently ill, and suffered the usual jet lag and loss of personal time when travelling. Upon returning he informed his boss of the progress, and was told that he needed to return again in 2 weeks to finalize the deal on the office space and make sure the team was on track.

The cost of this? Well, I can tell you that if he gets the chance to work for a different company where he doesn't have to travel he'll be the first to jump ship.

Incidentally, he mentioned that they are having problems with attrition of staff in their India office, and that office space is no longer as cheap and widely available as before. While it had been easy and cheap to offshore two years ago, it had become more complicated and time-consuming recently.

4.) Lack of accountability

I'm working with a team that is remote right now for a client. Every day we have a team meeting conference call and people call in from multiple sites. Though good in theory, we end up having to repeat many things that are said because the phone lines are questionable. Additionally many people skip the meeting, or delay us because they don't have the project files to look at when we put them up on the projector. I also suspect that a good part of the team is doing work (or other things) on their computer while on the phone, since when they are asked a question it is clear they haven't been listening.

There is something to be said for making your team show up in person, look you in the eye when you are having a difficult discussion about schedules and features, and not be able to hide their facial expressions behind a phone line. True accountability makes for great product teams.

THE BOTTOM LINE

One has to wonder, when the laws of supply and demand begin to catch up with the situation, and the hidden costs of offshoring begin to become more apparent, will companies come to regret their cost-conscious post-bubble offshoring choices?

Spring Color In The Landscape

Most people enjoy color in the landscape, but especially in the Spring after the Winter season.

In the early Spring, one can enjoy blooming bulbs, which should be planted the previous Fall. Some bulbs to plant might be Daffodils, Tulips, Grape Hyacinth and Hyacinth. There are others, but these are some of the more spectacular ones. I like to plant ALOT of one kind together to create an eye-catching splash of color.

Daffodils come in various colors, but mainly yellows, oranges and whites. They can also be single, double, or even ruffled. Daffodils can naturalize, which means they multiply as years go by. They are also deer resistant.

Tulips also come in many colors, more so than Daffodils. You can choose shades of pink, purple, white, and yellow. These are the most common colors. The flowers themselves can be on the small side or very large, and they can also be ruffled. Deer love tulips, so be careful where you plant them if you have a deer problem.

I love Grape Hyacinths. They are very small and come in purple and white. Due to their size, an abundance of them should be planted together in groups to make a statement and have them stand out.

Hyacinths are a larger from of the Grape Hyacinth and also come in various colors. They are shorter and wider, rather than the tall and slender forms of the Daffodils and Tulips.

Early flowering trees are always a welcoming sight in the spring. Some of these are Cherry trees, Dogwoods, Crabapples, Magnolias, and Flowering Plum. Certain varieties of trees are hardier than others. For example, Dogwoods have been plagued with Anthracnose. Crosses have been developed between the problematic native Flowering Dogwood and the Kousa Dogwood to create hybrids that are resistant to Anthracnose. One of the successful ones is the Stellar Pink Dogwood. As its name implies, the flowers are a beautiful pink.

There are a multitude of flowering shrubs to choose from that will provide color in the spring. Some that you might consider are Rhododendron, Azaleas, and Viburnum. Most of theses varieties do well located in an area that gets both sun and shade. Rhododendron are large leaved shrubs and graceful. Most are on the larger size, but not all. A smaller Rhododendron variety is "Janet Blair" and has very pretty clear pink flowers. Rhodendron flowers can also be other shades of pink, purples, reds and white. The deer do like to eat this plant. However, the native Rhododendron is somewhat deer resistant. Azaleas come in many colors. You can find them in white, pinks, purples, and reds. The Exbury Azalea, which is larger and deciduous, comes in much brighter colors. So if you like bright yellows and oranges, you might try one of these. Viburnum flowers are mostly white. The majority of these plants get large and they are mostly deer resistant. They look nice in a relatively shady location and also work well in natural or wooded areas. Japanese Andromeda and Mountain Laurel are also lovely, early flowering shrubs. There are many varieties of these so you may select for particular colors and also shrub size. As you drive or walk around in the spring, you might see masses of Mountain Laurel blooming in the woods or at the edges.

Spring blooming perennials can be found in numerous sizes, shapes and flower colors. Bleeding Heart 'Exima' or 'Luxuriant' will bloom on and off for a good part of the season. Pink is the most common although they are also available in white. They like the shade. Peonies are a lovely old-fashioned perennial with their large beautiful flowers. They resemble a medium sized shrub (although they are a perennial) so can be used where you need some substance. Veronica with its spike-like blooms is very colorful. This is a lower perennial that prefers a sunny condition. Another great perennial is Catmint 'Walker's Low'. I have this in my garden. Mine is now two years old. It is about three feet wide and about 18' - 24" high. It blooms for an extremely long time with purple elongated flowers. Here is a tip for this plant. When flowers are finishing, cut the plant and flowers back by about 12". It will re-bloom again and be just as pretty.

Try to plant in large groups to maximize the impact of the color. One Daffodil looks lonely, but 100 make a striking picture. The same holds true for shrubs and perennials; you should plant them in groups. I like to use a minimum of five of a particular plant all in the same color. Trees can be used alone, but even with this type of plant you can add a few of one kind. A group of three Dogwood in bloom provides a mass of color.

Think in color schemes for plants that bloom at the same time. One palette might be various shades of pink, while another could be pinks, purples and whites. Want more of a cottage garden look? Add some pale yellows to create a soft kaleidoscope of color.

Select plants that bloom in different Spring months, from March through May. Then you are onto Summer color!

Why Plyometrics Workouts Are Not The Best Way To Increase Vertical Height!

There are many sports experts out there that claim you can increase vertical height by using plyometrics alone!

Lets see why this statement is untrue! There are many studies that prove that plyometrics are not the best way to increase vertical height!

An 8-week study found no significant improvement in long jump performance or vertical jump by 26 college-age subjects who performed depth jumps 2x a week (1).

Another study reported no significant difference in the vertical jump between a group training with an isokinetic leg press and a group training with depth jumps (2).

A study by Clutch concluded that plyometrics exercises (depth jumps of various heights) are no more effective than a regular jumping routine for increasing vertical jump and leg strength (3).

And yet another study showed no significant differences in the 40-yard dash and the vertical jump between a weight training group versus a group using plyometrics (4).

Another study found no significant differences in dynamic leg strength and leg power between a group who only performed maximum vertical jumps (from ground level), and two groups who performed depth jumps from varying heights(5).

And it gets even better, because a couple of other studies concluded that plyometrics have no effect on power development/performance (6,7). Yet another study found no significant differences in the vertical jump, the leg press and peak power of the quads between a group who performed a strength training program and a group who performed a strength training program and plyometrics(8).

But plyometrics might be good for one thing and that is causing sport injuries!

Cook and his coworkers noted the risk of injury associated with plyometrics (9).

Hutchins states that the use of plyometrics exercises is "irresponsible" (10). The most common plyometrics related injuries are patellar tendonitis (11,12) and stress fractures (11). Many others have questioned the safety of plyometrics.

Having said that, you can see why, plyometrics are not the best way to increase vertical height! There is absolutely no scientific basis to it- the scientific evidence proves it to bee harmful and not beneficial.

At best you can be injured if you do not have the necessary strength base! Having said that, it is imperative to develop a foundation of strength with strength/ weight training program before using plyometrics!

Plyometrics should be performed only if your body is strong enough to handle it.

Here are a few studies that prove that a plyometrics training system in combination with a strength training program can give you good results

In an issue of the Penn State Sports Medicine Newsletter there are numerous studies that prove this point!

One was of Finnish volleyball players (whose jump skills were already very good) who added plyometrics to their normal weight training. They saw an increase in vertical leap of 11%. There was also a description of a study done at the Human Performance Lab at Oregon State that compared plyometrics (jumps onto a box, double leg hops and split squat jumps) and squatting twice per week to one or the other. The squat only group increase vertical leap 3.30 centimeters. Plyometrics only showed a 3.81 cm increase and the combination training increased 10.67 cm which is a big difference.

My issue with plyometrics is that it has not been studied enough for the average person to take up this kind of workout. The height that people jump from has to be exact, the technique at which the land has to be as near perfect as possible, the coach has to really know what they are doing. If you are doing it from a book, then stay well away from plyometrics. If you have a qualified coach who has done this kind training and really knows there stuff, then go for it.
